Antique service of 5 tea cups and saucers in fine English porcelain by Gladstone China, made in England during the interwar period, around 1925–1935. The decoration features a typically Art Deco vocabulary: stylised black lines, almost architectural symmetrical patterns, a delicate palette of burnt orange, celadon green, purple, and yellow, enhanced with a gold rim. The coloured glazes have a slight relief that is perceptible to the touch and in the reflections. This effect gives a particular vibrancy to the surface, very different from the more common flat printed decorations. The silhouette of the cups is fine and elegant, with a high curved handle and slightly translucent lightweight porcelain. Overall good condition. Some signs of age and slight wear to the gold consistent with its age. Dimensions: Cup: diameter 7.5 cm / height 6.3 cm / width with handle 9 cm. Saucer: diameter 13.5 cm. Price: €145. A series that evokes both English tea rooms and Art Deco liners. One can almost imagine a gramophone in the room and someone reading Stefan Zweig in silence.
