This round dining table was designed by Pierre Vandel, in France, in the 1970s. The metal support is gold spotted green color. The top is made of tempered glass. Very good condition. No scratches. The tops of the feet are decorated with brass leaves. The furniture designer pierre vandel was born in 1939 in Roubaix, a suburb of Lille, France. It is best known for its angular tables, which evoke the glamorous and minimalist aesthetics that dominated furniture and lighting design in France in the 1970s. Pierre vandel followed a professional training in assembly and industrial design, before joining a research team at the École nationale des ponts et chaussées and the École nationale supérieure d'arts et métiers in Paris. Interested in technological innovation and different types of product development, pierre vandel experimented with a vertical aquarium and hi-fi systems, before devoting himself to the already well-established field of table, chair and lighting design. In 1969, the company Marais International placed an order to distribute 5,000 copies of the designer's relatively unknown work. Yet it was his meeting and friendship with the iconic fashion designer Pierre Cardin (born in 1922) that proved to be the turning point of Pierre Vandel's career in design and that made him meet with international success. Cardin supported pierre vandel's efforts by encouraging him to create his own brand, pierre vandel - paris, and then making him known to high society, who bought the vandel stone creations. Vandel stone designs – which include dining room tables, desks and coffee tables, made of aluminum, lacquered wood or plexiglass structures with brass details and table tops made of smoked or transparent glass – are exported to customers in New York, London, Melbourne and Tokyo.
