These armchairs can be attributed to adolf loos, according to giovanni renzi's essay: thonet uses the term modern only once in the 1904 catalogue, on what I call the "loos page". This page deserves special attention. It is entitled "modern armchairs", and presents 12 small armchairs. At least nine of them adopt the english style, and one of them - model no. 1012 - was used by loos in the drawing room of his house and in the drawing room of his client grete hentschel. The three remaining armchairs (no. 1009, no. 1010 and no. 1011) are closer to kohn's production, especially in the use of the square section. Two of them (no. 1009 and no. 1011) use the front leg like the armchair model no. 714 by jacob & josef kohn. Yet even in these three, we find loos' ideas expressed in his essays from the end of the 19th century: "now, the best chair will not claim any particular novelty... The modifications must not be perceptible at first glance. They will be limited to variations of a few millimeters, at most a few centimeters, in the thickness of the wood." a true collector's item.
