A lovely set of nine botanical plates from the Atlas van Nederlandsche planten (Atlas of Dutch Plants, c. 1905), compiled by Dr J. Ritzema Bos, with colour lithographs after drawings by L. Klaver (monogrammed ‘L.K.’). The plates show, among others, the field pansy and garden pansy, greater and common bird’s-foot trefoil, meadow, herb Robert and dove’s-foot crane’s-bill, blackthorn, Norway spruce, Weymouth pine and hyacinths. Each plate has a numbered title (Pl.) with the Dutch and Latin plant name. A classic of Dutch education around 1900. These plates combine scientific precision with an almost Art Nouveau-like linework. As a set of nine, you can fill an entire wall with them straight away. Perfect for a botanical or country-style wall, a kitchen, conservatory or child’s room; also lovely in Scandinavian and Japandi interiors in simple wooden frames. Fair to good condition: the colours are bright, the paper edges are lightly toned and here and there slightly creased or worn; on the pansy plate the lower left corner has been cut or broken off at an angle (photo 5). A few small spots in the margins.
