The circular top of this stool (or plant holder) is made of solid wood — probably chestnut or pine — revealing an exceptionally rich grain. The knots in the wood, the undulations of the fibres, the variations in colour between deep red and warm brown... Every centimetre tells decades of life. The mahogany patina, acquired naturally over time or slightly revived with oil, gives it a warm and vibrant glow, that of wood that has been loved, maintained, and respected. The three legs made from natural branches, still marked by the traces of knots and bark removed by hand, are fixed directly into the top with artisanal precision. Slightly angled outward, they ensure remarkable stability despite their raw and wild appearance. It is this tension between the roughness of the material and the intelligence of the construction that gives this piece its character. Manufactured probably between the 1920s and 1960s, in the great tradition of French peasant carpentry, this stool belongs to that rare category of objects that transcend trends. Once rustic and functional in a barn or farmhouse kitchen, it is now a sought-after piece of brutalist style. Seat diameter: 26 cm.
