Keiko Yoshida vase from 1971, signed and made in black ceramic with organic, sculptural forms. The asymmetrical openings and the matte, metallic glaze give the object a powerful visual presence. This example comes with the original signed letter dated 22 November 1972, complete with signature and seal. The vase was made by the Japanese artist Keiko Yoshida (1938) during her European period in the early 1970s. The piece is constructed from black ceramic with an irregular surface and asymmetrical openings, finished with a matte glaze in black and graphite grey. The underside is marked ‘YA 71’ together with Yoshida’s Japanese family name. Dimensions: 33 × 20 × 22 cm (W×D×H). Together with the preserved letter, this represents a unique and fully documented work from Yoshida’s early oeuvre. Yoshida received several awards including the Lux Prize (1969), Doutrelon-Detry Prize (1971), Belgian Critique Award (1971), Rising Prize (1973) and the Rembrandt Bugatti Award (1973 and 1974). The condition of this object is excellent, without damage or restorations.
