Floris Meydam (1919–2011) was one of the most important Dutch glass artists of the 20th century. He started at the age of 16 as an assistant at Glasfabriek Leerdam and became chief designer. For decades, he defined the face of Dutch glass with his elegant and colourful tableware and unique glass art (Unica). He also designed successful ceramics and contributed to the iconic design of the Grolsch swing-top bottle. His innovative creations have won international awards and can be admired today in renowned museums such as MoMA in New York.
