This special rocking chair was created by design legend Ilmari Tapiovaara for the Finnish manufacturer Asko during the 1960s. The chair is made of wood. The black frame perfectly complements the warm brown seat, giving it a harmonious and timeless character. The piece is distinguished by its elegant, solid construction with distinctive curved rocking runners that flow seamlessly into the legs, ensuring stability and a light form. The slender, vertical backrest spokes and the contoured, ergonomic seat emphasise the Scandinavian aesthetic and attention to comfort. The piece is crafted from high-quality materials, with a strong emphasis on precise joints and natural finishes, typical of Ilmari Tapiovaara's classic design. Ilmari Tapiovaara (1914–1999) is one of the most prominent Finnish designers of the 20th century, known for his harmonious blend of functionality, simplicity, and natural materials. His works, which fall within the Scandinavian modernist movement, are prized for their timeless design and comfortable use. Asko is a Finnish design manufactory that was founded in Lahti in 1918 by Aukusti Avonius, a carpenter. In the 1930s, Asko expanded its sales offices outside of Finland and became popular with international interior designers for its minimalist, upholstered furniture. Asko belongs to the canon of Scandinavian design history. The armchair is in original vintage condition with minor signs of wear due to age. Minor scrapes. The seat height is 42 cm.
