This pretty pitcher is typical of the work of the ceramist françois caleca in vallauris from the end of the 50s and in the 60s. We immediately recognize his work in this speckled enamel, decorated with a slightly hollow rectilinear pattern and his famous shiny red pastille. Caleca's work appeals to one more sense, touch! Indeed, we can't help but run our finger over the red pastille to feel the contrast between its softness, its very smooth touch, in contrast to the very slightly rougher touch of the rest! The shape of the pitcher is very modern for the time: refined, with straight lines softened by rounded corners. But what distinguishes this pitcher from caleca's other works is its color! Indeed, the background enamel is not a speckled light gray on black as is often the case, but a speckled pale green and black, much rarer. Below, a vallauris stamp, a mention "decor main" and the signature of françois caleca, the monogram cf. I looked for a while why the signature was different (i read pi) when everything pointed to caleca as the artist behind this pitcher! But after investigation and discussion with ceramics enthusiasts, I understood! The signature is not in the same direction as the mention "decor main" and the incision was, in part, drowned in the enamel. You have to turn the signature 90° and imagine the bar of the f partially invisible and there you see the monogram cf. This pitcher is in perfect condition, no cracks, no chips, not even a chip. It measures 17 cm in height, 13 cm in maximum diameter and approximately 19 cm in maximum width from the handle to the belly.
