With its organically shaped blown glass shade, rare in this frosted opal glass version, the ga9 wall light evokes a suspended drop of water. Designed by swedish architect erik gunnar asplund, widely considered the father of swedish modernism, this luminaire combines geometric clarity with structural ingenuity. Like his stockholm city library, it balances simplicity and innovation. One curved arm holds the glass, while another fixes the light source in the center of the luminaire. The black lacquered metal curves organically, contrasting with the polygonal backplates, creating a dialogue between geometry and fluidity that defines asplund's vision. The opals diffuse a soft, soothing light, giving them a captivating dimension beyond mere functionality. Asplund's work has influenced many major scandinavian designers such as alvar aalto, erik bryggman, and arne jacobsen. Manufactured by asea (acronym for allmänna svenska elektriska aktiebolaget – “general swedish electricity company”) in the 1940s. The metal frame has some scratches and missing lacquer. Good overall condition. Price is for one pair, two pairs available.
