A generously proportioned lounge chair from circa 1870-1900, built around one long, flowing curve. The seat and back form a single caned sweep that ergonomically cradles the body. This chair was designed to spend a long and relaxing time in. The armrests are a surprise: they pivot and swing out into a long leg rest, turning the chair into a semi-reclining lounger. Visible joinery and wooden pegs show how carefully it was made. The hand-woven cane has a soft natural tone that sits beautifully against the deep patina of the wood, and casts beautiful shadows around it. Can be used at home as a reading chair or as a sculptural piece in a room that calls for a sense of history. Good vintage condition with age-appropriate patina, some scratches and a sturdy structure. The cane is intact and structurally sound.
