The F588 is one of Harcourt’s most recognisable lounge chairs: a generous, sculptural shell with a separate headrest and a low swivel base. The combination of its broad seat, soft contours and deep buttoning gives the chair a very relaxed character, while the pedestal base keeps the overall design visually light. This example has been fully rebuilt and reupholstered. The original upholstery was removed and the interior cushioning has been renewed, giving the chair back its volume, comfort and intended shape. It was then upholstered in a high-quality Maharam wool fabric in a soft, warm off-white / light grey tone. I deliberately chose a quiet wool textile for this chair. It emphasises Harcourt’s sculptural form without making the piece feel heavy, while the subtle texture works particularly well with the deep buttoning and piping. This piece is in very good restored condition and is ready for many more years of use. Details - Designer: Geoffrey Harcourt - Manufacturer: Artifort - Model: F588 - Year: 1967 - Origin: The Netherlands - Upholstery: Maharam wool - Interior cushioning: renewed - Swivel pedestal base - Professionally rebuilt and reupholstered Condition: professionally restored, with new interior cushioning and new upholstery.
