Marco Zanuso, designer of the Lady armchair
Marco Zanuso (1916-2001) is one of the absolute pioneers of modern Italian design. A Milanese architect and professor at the Politecnico, he signed in 1951 for Arflex the Lady armchair, the first seat industrially produced in polyurethane foam and rubber, which won the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale that same year. His Brionvega Black, Doney and Algol television sets, designed with Richard Sapper, and his Marenco sofa for Arflex would follow. A career that accompanied the entire Italian post-war industrialisation.
The Lady armchair Arflex, Marenco sofa and Brionvega sets remain Marco Zanuso's most iconic pieces. Italian vintage furniture to find for those wanting a founding Milanese signature of post-war industrial design.
