Helena Tynell, the Finnish glass pendant

Helena Tynell (1918-2016) is one of the greatest Finnish designers of lighting and glass of the 20th century. A graduate of the Central Institute of Industrial Arts in Helsinki, she worked for three decades for the Riihimäki glassworks and signed for the German Limburg Glashütte a production of pendants in mould-blown glass, with organic shapes and amber, green or blue colours. Her pieces, long confused with those of her compatriot Paavo Tynell, are now fully recognised as a signature of her own, sober and powerful.

Helena Tynell pendants for Limburg, in amber or blue mould-blown glass, remain her most recognisable pieces. Scandinavian vintage lighting to find for those wanting a Finnish signature pendant, at prices still more accessible than Paavo Tynell's.
