Gino Sarfatti, absolute master of Italian lighting
Gino Sarfatti (1912-1985) is probably the greatest Italian lighting designer of the 20th century. An architect by training, he founded in 1939 in Milan the Arteluce manufactory, which he ran for thirty-five years and for which he designed more than six hundred models of lamps, floor lamps and pendants. His 1063 floor lamp (1954) with vertical fluorescent tube, 2097 pendant (1958) with eighteen brass bulbs, 559 lamp and 174 sconce remain his most iconic pieces. A scientific and artistic body of work, today rediscovered by Flos which reissues several of his models.
The 1063 floor lamp, 2097 pendant and 559 lamp from Arteluce, now reissued by Flos, remain Gino Sarfatti's signature pieces. Italian vintage lighting to find for those wanting a major historic signature of 20th-century lighting design.
