Sergio Mazza, co-founder of Artemide

Sergio Mazza (born 1931) is one of the most discreet but essential Italian designers of the 20th century. A Milanese architect, he co-founded in 1960 with Ernesto Gismondi the publisher Artemide, for which he designed some of the first catalogue pieces. His Toga chair (1968) in moulded fibreglass, Alfa lamp and Bacco pendant are among the classics of Italian pop design. He also signed for Cinova, Krupp Italiana and Quattrifolio armchairs, tables and lighting systems where Milanese elegance combined with great economy of means.

The Toga fibreglass chair, Alfa lamp and Bacco Artemide pendant remain Sergio Mazza's signature pieces. Italian vintage furniture to find for those wanting a founding Milanese signature of Artemide, still accessible.
