Angelo Mangiarotti, marble as architecture
Angelo Mangiarotti (1921-2012) is one of the most radical Italian architect-designers of the 20th century. A graduate of the Politecnico di Milano and briefly trained in Chicago with the masters of American modernism, he signed a body of work where matter and structure are one. His Eros table series for Skipper (1971), in Carrara marble, whose bases fit into the top through gravity and friction without any fixing, remains his masterpiece. With his lamps for Artemide and his furniture for Cassina, he redesigned design's relationship with raw matter.
The Eros table in Carrara marble from Skipper remains Angelo Mangiarotti's signature piece. Italian vintage furniture to find for those wanting a signature piece where Milanese architecture condenses into a table.
