Jean-Claude Mahey, Roche Bobois lacquer
Jean-Claude Mahey is one of those French designers of the 1970s and 80s who shaped the identity of high-end lacquered furniture. Closely linked to Roche Bobois, he signed for the publisher coffee tables, consoles, desks and occasional furniture where deep lacquer (black, red, ivory) meets chromed or gold-plated metal and glass. A French signature that dialogues with Pierre Vandel's and Maison Jansen's, and that dressed bourgeois living rooms in the late post-war years.
Jean-Claude Mahey coffee tables and consoles, in black lacquer with eggshell inlays, glass top and chromed structure, remain his most identifiable pieces. A French vintage Seventies furniture to find for those wanting a high-end seventies signature.
