Friso Kramer, the Dutch industrial designer
Friso Kramer (1922-2019) is one of the founding fathers of Dutch industrial design. A graduate in interior architecture from Amsterdam, he joined the Ahrend publisher in 1952, for which he designed the Revolt chair (1953): a seat in pressed steel sheet and bent wood, stackable, equipping Dutch schools, offices and public spaces for three decades. More than 300,000 units produced. With his co-founder of Total Design, Wim Crouwel, he helped structure the Dutch modernist scene of the post-war boom.
The Revolt chair from Ahrend remains Friso Kramer's signature piece. A Dutch vintage chair to find for those wanting a classic of European industrial design, in the vein of French Tolix or Mullca school chairs.
