Kaare Klint, father of the Copenhagen school

Kaare Klint (1888-1954) is the founding designer of modern Danish design. An architect and professor, he founded in 1924 the furniture department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, which he ran for thirty years and where he trained the entire next generation: Hans Wegner, Børge Mogensen, Poul Kjærholm. His thought? Study the proportions of the human body and classical furniture to produce perfectly right pieces. His Safari chair (1933), folding and demountable, and Faaborg chair remain his most identifiable pieces.
