Étienne Fermigier, the French Disderot lamp
Étienne Fermigier (1932-1973) is a French designer who died too young, but whose production of lighting remains a reference of French modernism from the 1960s. Trained at the École Camondo, he signed for the publishers Monix and Disderot floor lamps, table lamps and pendants where formal sobriety meets precise materials: lacquered steel tubes, hemispherical metal shades, cast iron counterweights. His counterweight articulated lamp and Bobine floor lamp remain his most identifiable pieces.
The Étienne Fermigier counterweight lamps for Disderot and Monix remain the designer's signature pieces. French vintage lighting to find for those wanting a modernist signature lamp, sober and technically perfect.
