Mario Botta, the Ticinese architect of the Quinta chair
Mario Botta (born 1943) is one of the greatest contemporary Swiss architects. A Ticinese trained in Venice with Carlo Scarpa and Louis Kahn, he signed churches, museums and emblematic buildings of the late 20th century (San Francisco MoMA, Évry Cathedral, La Scala theatre). In design, he created for Alias chairs where architectural rigour unfolds in furniture: the Quinta (1985), Seconda (1982), Tesi (1986). Pieces with strong graphic silhouettes, in steel and wood, condensing the Ticinese neo-rationalist spirit.
The Quinta chair and Seconda from Alias remain Mario Botta's signature pieces in design. Italian vintage chairs to find for those wanting a strong architectural signature, at the crossroads of graphics and seating.
