Giandomenico Belotti, the Milanese Spaghetti chair
Giandomenico Belotti (1922-2004) is the Italian architect who signed one of the most recognisable chairs in contemporary design: the Spaghetti chair. Designed in 1979 for Alias, the Milanese publisher he co-founded that same year, it pairs a chromed tubular steel structure with PVC threads stretched as seat and back, like spaghetti on a fork. A Compasso d'Oro winner, exhibited at MoMA, the Spaghetti chair embodies what Italian design does best: take a humble material and turn it into an icon.
The Spaghetti chair Alias in chromed steel and PVC remains Giandomenico Belotti's signature piece. An Italian vintage chair to find for those wanting an Eighties Milanese design classic, on the border between graphic and useful.
