Gae Aulenti, architect of the Musée d'Orsay

Gae Aulenti (1927-2012) is probably the greatest Italian female architect of the 20th century. A graduate of the Politecnico di Milano in 1953, she designed the transformation of the Orsay station into a museum in 1986, but also the Palazzo Grassi in Venice and the Asia Society Museum in New York. For design, she created for Knoll, FontanaArte, Martinelli Luce, Kartell and Poltronova a production where architecture irrigates every piece of furniture. The Pipistrello lamp (1965) remains her absolute icon, becoming a classic of Italian lighting.
