Sergio Asti, the Italian object as sculpture

Sergio Asti (1926-2021) is one of the major Italian designers of the 20th century, and one of the founders in 1956 of the ADI (Associazione per il Disegno Industriale). A graduate in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano, he signed for six decades for Knoll, Salviati, Fontana Arte, Martinelli Luce and Kartell a body of work where each object is treated as habitable sculpture. His Gibigiana lamp for Flos (with Achille Castiglioni), Daruma lamp for Candle, Salviati glass vases and Profilo ashtray compose a coherent body of work, where detail finesse always prevails.

The Daruma Candle lamp, Salviati vases and Gibigiana Flos lamp remain Sergio Asti's signature pieces. Italian vintage furniture to find for those wanting a discreet but deeply refined Milanese signature.
