Description
This floor or table lamp has originally been designed in a white version (still available); the black version was produced temporarily and is out of production for quite some time now. The lamp consists of a metal frame, crosswise covered by 2 sheets of black fibre cloth. The metal frame is composed of 3 horizontal elements connected with vertical metal bars making a light weight framework, covered by the sheets of black fibre cloth. The lamp will be delivered unassembled. The name lotek derives from the words low-tech, sounds japanese and reflects the aesthetic and strict simplicity concepts that are so unique to japanese designers. The lamp also refers to the beauty of japan, which was an important source of inspiration for benno premsela (1920-1997). When designing this lamp, premsela actually wanted to use the translucent rice paper that has traditionally been used in japanese sliding doors. Premsela saw paper as the ideal material for filtering light, whether daylight or artificial light. He chose non-woven fibre cloth for the lotek because that material is inexpensive and, moreover, has a flame retardant effect. For the framework of the lamp, he drew on examples of the japanese-american sculptor noguchi, who had put lamps of iron wire and paper on the market in the 1950s. The 30 by 30 cube is a reference to the traditional japanese tatami mats, which determine the dimensions of a room with their fixed proportions. Excellent vintage condition, no damages. No signs of wear and of age. Original black wire 250 cm = 8 ft, black switch and black europlug.
