Description
Rare dutch modernist 'de stijl' wall shelving display unit, bought at metz & co in amsterdam in 1950s. The style is reminiscent to the works of nisse strinning (sweden) 2 red enameled steel wire frames with birch and black stained slats which can be placed as desired. You can set up this shelving according to your own requirements. Watch the incredible details such as the round feet caps and the cove at the back of the bottom, a space for the floor plinth so the shelving system can be put directly to the wall. The two red shelves mounts are foldable for easy transport. Bought from first owner who received this wall unit as a gift at his wedding in 1957. Metz & co (1902-2013) in amsterdam (a popular avant-garde dutch warehouse that was specialized in modern furniture) Good original condition, wear consistent with age and use, minor paint loss consistent with age and use. Many former members of 'de stijl' later worked en designed for metz & co. Around 1930-1940 metz & co attracted several 'de stijl' designers, including rietveld, jjp oud, van der leck and huszár. 'de stijl' had a major influence on bauhaus in germany and on much modern art through the 20th century, and is still deeply rooted in dutch design.
