The beni ouarain carpet is probably the best known of the berber carpets. It is characterized by its thick wool in unbleached tones and by its diamond-shaped geometric patterns, often black or brown. However, we now find them with brightly colored patterns. Originally, the beni ouarain carpet is also characterized by its very large size. Indeed, the beni ouarain tribe comes from the middle atlas, so it is subject to a harsh climate. The carpets were therefore used as mattresses and blankets, we wrapped ourselves in them to sleep and protect ourselves from the cold. The beni ouarain berber carpet is made by hand on a loom. Wool threads are tied one after the other, which requires a very long time of realization, which can range from several days to several months depending on its size.
