Kashmar or Kachmar rug, hand-knotted wool in the Mechhed or Mashhad region of Khorassan province in very good condition around 1960 (Khorassan or Khorasan rugs): hand-knotted rugs from Khorassan province in north-eastern Iran. These tightly knotted rugs have a cotton chain and typically Persian decorations, such as medallions, palmettes, arabesques, and mir-e butha or herati motifs. What is special about these carpets is the frequent use of cochineal red, and a wool as soft as it is soft for velvet of a very high quality. Khorasan rugs, which are manufactured in various sizes, include Mashhad, Dorukhsh, Birjand, Moud, Naïn and Kashmar rugs. The city of Kasmar (کاشمر )has a very great history and its former name is Torshiz.
