This store was opened on the ground floor of the grand hôtel du louvre built in 1852 notably by the architect alfred armand (1805-188) on the place du palais royal. Financed by the pereire brothers, it was the very first parisian palace built at the request of baron haussmann. In 1875 the store was expanded by purchasing the entire building, occupied by the hôtel du louvre which was transferred to the other side of the place du palais-royal. This department store had fifty-two departments and counters available to customers. It closed its doors in 1974, today the louvre for antique dealers as well as offices...
