This piece was designed by frantisek jirak and produced by tatra nabytok in former czechoslovakia. This piece was part of the popular set of wall units called ‘monto 300’. The ‘monti 300’ was a set of high quality cabinets and tables inspired by scandinavian furniture. All the pieces in the set could be easily put together in various formations. Only the drinks bar unit and the dresser were the individually standing pieces. Frantisek jirak, the designer of this dresser was one of the most important figures of the czech 20th century furniture design. His work was clearly inspired by charles and ray eames as well as scandinavian designers, but jirak had a very unique and easily recognisable design language. He was brilliant in introducing modern design trends and styles and making them available via mass production - a true feat in light of the very limited conditions of the czechoslovakian socialist economy of the 1960’s and 1970’s. Dressers that could store duvets and pillows were a very popular and an useful type of furniture at the time, so lots of different designs can be found. Even though the dressers aren’t used for this purpose as much these days, this particular piece is still a very attractive and useful piece. This piece is in its great vintage condition showing only minor natural wear and tear on the wooden parts. The whole piece has been recently refurbished.
