Description
Rare table clock from the italian manufacturer alessi after a drawing by michael graves from 1986. A special and postmodern collector's item. The "mantel clock" is a miniature architecture. Graves combines constructive and decorative details of classical architecture into a functional object for the interior. On a pedestal, the case with the watchmaking movement is raised to four conical columns. The classical pillars with chapters, the bow, the horizontal joints are elements borrowed from traditional architecture and are here interpreted or quoted. A shiny golden pendulum moves between the black pillars. The black of the columns repeats in the upper end of the lid. The cover can be removed to access the movement. Inside the lid is the engraving alessi and graves. Due to their complexity, these clocks were handmade. The "mantel clock" was only produced until 1999 and is now rare.
