Pascal Etchenic was born in St Jean de Luz in 1948. After a few years spent in the Juan Benito and Spencer workshop, in 1973 he opened his own gallery workshop in Paris where he worked in engraving, pastel and oil painting. . In 1983, he settled on the French Riviera in St Raphaël. "etchenic transcends Mediterranean landscapes and its compositions, largely open to spaces of freedom, demonstrate a clear desire to simplify." Even today, etchenic's works are present in numerous galleries in France and abroad. This painting, undated, was produced in the south of France, between 1988 and 1994, is one of the pastels produced by etchenic during the first part of his career, before he expressed himself more than in oil painting, more suited to expressing large areas of color with a knife. This painting is part of a period when etchenic and kerfily met a lot, which is reflected in their respective works, which in the majority of cases had landscape, and, above all, Mediterranean landscapes as subject. Without in any way sticking to Kerfily, etchenic nevertheless worked, like him, his landscapes in a little more detail. Later, he emancipated himself from it in favor of the aforementioned flat areas with the knife, which left it more to the light to give their nuances to the painted landscapes, as Pierre Soulages did with his "blacks". This work was recently taken out of its elm burl frame (51 -everywhere. Everything is now perfectly clean. The back has been perfectly re-glued with tape. The whole is therefore in perfect condition.
