Elegant carpet from tibet, circa 1970. Wool carpet with grid décor on a brick red background framed by a compartmentalized border adorned with stylized symbols and dragons. Modern tibetan carpets have been handmade for many centuries. Initially, carpet making was considered a minor art, which has grown, endured and found its place in the major arts. The first stories found on tibetan carpets report their splendid beauty and the meticulous work of the weavers. Travelers were impressed by such beauties. The social upheavals of our modern beginning of the century have profoundly changed the production of tibetan carpets. Many aristocratic families organized the production of quality wool carpets. They had to flee to india and nepal. Production was able to resume during the 1970s. Dimensions: 267x184 cm. Status: abrasions = contrast of red, it is in gradient.
