Hermann bollmann was a german illustrator, graphic designer and cartographer. In the late 1940s, he began producing pictorial maps to depict german cities after the bombing campaigns of world war II. Popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, the genre of the hand-drawn bird's-eye city plan had all but disappeared with the advent of aerial photography, but bollmann revived it with great success through his innovative methods combining photographic documentation with a sense of design to create highly detailed yet readable cityscapes. Most of his maps were produced between the 1950s and 1970s. Here, a very beautiful example of the city of amsterdam! 66*83 cm. 1960. Take a look at my shop to find more maps/posters.
