Nestled in a corner of the piazza san marco in venice, the "porta della carta" belongs to the doge's palace or palazzo ducale. This painting restores the magnificence of the place in a variation of ochre, beige, brown, grey, all finesse, shadow and light, with a small corner of blue sky. It dates back to 1987, but giuseppe truglia, a painter and set designer born in 1916, located it further back in time, as a memory of venice at the time of its youth, as indicated by the outfit of women chatting around the porch. By holding the ear well, as in a shell, we may hear the cheerful babble of the venetian dialect. The work is beautifully enhanced by the gilded wood frame.
