At the height of its production, the company was massive, creating mid-century modern designs. Its table lamps, sconces, and chandeliers and pendants are anything but ordinary and are today admired for their artistic character. Innovative.the merger of 2 large glassworks in 1947 to form peill & putzler occurred at the start of a post-war design wave. Peill und sohn, founded in 1903, was headed by leopold peill, a philanthropist and glassmaker, and the putzler brothers, well-established glass producers, known for their street lighting. The synthesis of the two companies created a renowned glassworks and a lighting company. Günther peill and hans ahrenkiel are then at the head of the company. The couple experimented with the designs the company produced. Technological advances allowed the company to manufacture pieces that were as much art as functional objects. Designers who have worked with peill & putzler and contributed to its fame include aloys ferdinand gangkofner, wilhelm wagenfeld, helmut demary, william braun, horst tüselmann and wilhelm braun-feldweg.
