Born in dayton, ohio on november 25, 1945, he joined the army during the vietnam war before he earned his bachelor's degree from california state university in 1969. He began contributing to playboy magazine in 1976 and redefining his minimal, precise style that is often compared to the smooth, clean lines of art deco. His characters have black hair, white and shiny skin, full lips, including the woman on the cover of the album rio (1982) by duran duran. He died at the age of 38 on february 4, 1984, following a heart attack after participating in "aerobathon" to raise funds for the american heart association.
