A rare early 1800 kneeler with evident XVIII influence. In the first part of the XIX century designers stared looking up to older classical styles for design inspirations. This evolved the revival of gothic style that was now called neo-gothic. In spite of the fact that each country had a different approach to this new style, they all shared a common passion for the XXII medieval style. The gothic revival began in england and its popularity grew rapidly when increasingly serious and learned admires of neo-gothic styles sought to revive medieval forms and the populations had renewed interest towards the church and christianity. The piece was restored leaving it with its original look. It was made with beech and chestnut wood. Italy, early XIX century.
