Tavern conversation Camillo Gioja Barbera (1829-1906) oil on canvas Camillo gioja barbera was a renowned artist who worked in rome from approximately 1884 to 1903. Although there is limited information available about him, it is a fact that he had a studio on via margutta, a location frequented by many of his fellow artists. Barbera’s creations were mainly genre paintings, and he was known for his depictions of monumental interiors. His artistic style was primarily based on 19th-century realism, which was aimed at portraying reality without any academic idealization. This style was heavily influenced by the works of the celebrated french artist courbet.
