Description
One design - seven factories. The salt-glazed pot has a timeless shape. This model is strongly associated with höganäs, but has been produced in many other locations. The production of stoneware products at höganäs embodied a modern industrial approach in which design, marketing and distribution were the keys to success. The products also expressed a new international design language. Salt consists of sodium and chloride. In the heat, the sodium reacts with the substances in the clay to form a transparent glaze. The final color of the vessel depends on the composition and iron content of the clay. Legend has it that when they started their business in 1835, the potters of höganäs did not understand the secrets of salt glazing. Several men were sent to the factory in helsingborg to spy on them. But there the doors and windows were well locked and barred. On the next attempt, the höganäs men succeeded in bribing the helsingborg potters with alcohol, and thus got the secrets of the process out of them.
