Great kokeshi by master toa sekiguchi (1942-) - japan circa 1970" This "kokeshi" doll is a large and unusual version of the model "camelia" by this artist "sosaku kokeshi" (creator of contemporary kokeshis). Born in maebashi city, gunma prefecture in 1942 in shibukawa, it belongs to a dynasty of kokeshi artists (a museum is dedicated to the gumma family). He still works with his family and has won numerous awards, including the prime minister's (which gives the title of master). Pyrograved wood - varnish - the kimono is subtly signified by a vertical line ending with a notch. Status: shocks and scratches related to use. Signed. The head has been glued back together. A notice on the artist, and on the kokeshis, a certificate, will be given to the acquirer. ---- about kokeshis: they were toys for girls, or offered as a token of love or friendship; symbolized the desire to have a healthy child. They would have a talisman function, are modesty, softness. They also have a buddhist origin. Their hairstyles evoking the buddha bun.
