Description
Rare and beautiful butter jar, glazed with betschdorf salt. A small town in alsace, in eastern france. The grey background and hand-painted cobalt blue décor. Are typical of traditional pottery of. Betschdorf. Long before refrigerators existed, butter was kept in salted water to preserve its freshness. Fill the bottom tray with water and add a little salt to ensure better preservation. Fill the top tray with butter, place it on the water container and store it at room temperature. Isolated from the ambient air, butter does not yellow (and does not go rancid), it retains all its freshness and flavor for at least 10 days. Diameter cover 8 cm. Height 7 cm. This butter dish is decorated with wavy patterns.
