Description
An old butter dish or sardine box in silver metal and glass, on a tray. Fish catch and seaweed décor, art nouveau style. Gallia brand and double hollow punches. Scratches of use. Era around 1900. Dimensions tray 20 X 16 cm. Good condition. In 1880, christofle bought the alfénide factory and renamed it "orfèvrerie gallia". The hallmark of the gallia collection, created by christofle in 1898, is a rooster in a badge captioned "gallia metal", "goldsmith gallia" or "gallia" until 1942. From 1942 to 1974, the rooster is inscribed in a square labeled "gallia" then "coll. Gallia".
