Description
This engraving represents the national assembly on the night of 4 to 5 august 1789 made by isodore stanislas herman after the work of charles monnet. It illustrates the abandonment of privileges decided by the national assembly. This meeting was chaired by mr. Chapelier. This plate is the 4th out of 15 in the series of the main events of the revolution. On this engraving, the inscriptions "the law and the king" and the three fleurs-de-lis of the coat of arms of the legend are crossed out. The same is true of the fleurs-de-lis and the crown present at the top of the engraving. Isodore stanislas helman is a french engraver of the mid-eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. He attended the free school of drawing and then embarked on engraving. He is known for the realization of the plates of the main days of the revolution realized according to the work of charles monnet. Charles monnet was a french painter, draftsman and illustrator of the eighteenth century. He was named first prize of the royal academy. He was also appointed painter to the king.
