Description
Period: ca. 1900-1910 this tilting footstool is typically art nouveau in style and is instantly reminiscent of thonet's bentwood furniture. Originally it was caned but was already upholstered when I found it. I replaced the old textile with black velvet finished with a black ribbon. The wood is beech wood that has been bent using michael thonet's famous steam process, which he perfected to create his furniture on an industrial scale. I don't know if this footrest is the same as the one that appears in the thonet 1904 catalog (n° 7002 called la flâneuse since my model seems to have an additional roller... Condition: original cannage disappeared. Reupholstered. It there are a few creases at the bottom of the velvet due to difficult access (i didn't want to risk taking the stool apart) there are two cracks in the front curves (see photos) but these appear superficial and limited to the exterior fibers. Also a crack (or assembly joint) in the footrest bar. Use and scuff marks consistent with age. Price reflects condition. Dimensions: 65 cm long, 37 cm wide, 34 cm high, 5 kg.
