Description
Magnificent and imposing gu vase with flared neck in bronze with golden patina. It includes a decoration of flowers and foliage and is decorated with crenellated edges. Edo period (year 1860 deciphered under the vase). An inscription under the foot, in japanese (translation to be verified): "first half of july 1860 - name of a person (not deciphered) - hodo temple - daily supplies (daily supply)" the hodo temple is located in akasaka, district from tokyo. It is characterized by its famous tsukiji ("dry lands") wall, designated as a cultural property of typical significance of the edo period. Two famous people rest in this temple: the confucian scholar ibe kazan and the great sumo wrestler raiden tameimon. One of the greatest sumo wrestlers in history: he has 254 victories for only 10 defeats, a winning percentage of 96.2%, a record that is still undefeated today. He dominated the world of sumo so much that officials even banned him from using his favorite techniques in order to keep the fights interesting.
