Chromo painted after Paul Charavel (mid-20th century)

I am selling this chromo enhanced with oil on cardboard laminated to canvas, framed and ready to hang. It is a superb work, of good size and well made. Framed with marie-louise by a professional, it was probably made from an original from the 1920s and 30s, which is distinguished by its lively and luminous palette and its lively touch. The motif of the odalisque, a great classic in the history of art, is presented here in an interior scene painted in broad strokes by an expert brush. The pink and white tones of the flesh stand out against the milky blue of the bed linen. Lost in her thoughts, the young woman presents a medal profile and a relaxed pose which is reminiscent of the famous odalisques of ingres. The work is a chromo, that is to say a repainted decal and which therefore has all the apparent characteristics of a painting. It was made from an original by the painter paul charavel (1877-1961), who worked alongside 20th century masters such as paul signac, henri matisse and léon bonnat. Charavel is renowned for its numerous landscapes around saint-tropez and its religious frescoes, created mainly in aisne. It stands out in particular for its bathing scenes and pays a permanent homage to light.
