Design 2-seater sofa Børge Mogensen for Fredericia Stolefabrik

Two-seater sofa in solid oak and wool sheet, model 2252, design by børge mogensen (1914-1972) in 1956. Edition fredericia stolefabrik in denmark in the 1970s. The foams are in perfect condition, as well as the textiles, probably original. The headrests are adjustable in height using small leather straps, the elastic straps under the seats have been replaced to new. 140 X 83cm h: 96cm. Børge mogensen is one of the great danish designers who marked scandinavian design in the 1950s/60s. After training as a cabinetmaker at the age of 20 and working as a carpenter for a few years, he joined the copenhagen school of decorative arts and design at the age of 24. At the age of 28 he trained as an architect at the royal danish academy of fine arts, then worked in various studios in copenhagen. He created his own studio in 1950 and began working closely with publisher fredericia in 1955. He won numerous prizes and medals, in 1971 he was awarded the furniture prize in denmark and elected honorary royal designer of industry by the royal society of arts, london. børge mogensen was one of the most important designers of his generation and participated in creating the concept of "danish modern design" known all over the world. His production is very important and his very refined, stripped down style is quickly recognizable. He never stopped imagining new models at all times, some sketches were born on tablecloths or restaurant napkins, see on the back of a matchbox during a dinner! Together with his colleagues arne jacobsen and hans wegner, mogensen has gained international recognition for danish furniture design and simple, functional designs.
