This very large and beautiful basket, also called gleaner (giant here) will cause a sensation at a wedding to present the glasses of the aperitif, rolls or desserts. We can also imagine it in a department store to present fruit for example, or for photo shoots in a natural spirit. And why not in your garden or on your terrace to put plants. In this case, it will be necessary to pass a layer of varnish "outside" to ensure greater resistance to bad weather, moisture. From what I was told, it was made by the basket weavers of villaines-les-rochers who are known for their non-standard pieces. He would be between 15 and 20 years old. It is made of wicker, mostly light (barked) with brown and green strands around the perimeter of the base. It is reinforced on the inside by a wooden structure. I washed it with vinegar water and then I passed a light coat of varnish (blond honey color) to protect it and restore its shine. It is in good structural condition, still very solid, rather clean, but does not hide its age: some damaged strands, some areas with abrasions (on the edges of the basket and under the base), some inconspicuous spots and a grayed patina in places. It is about 122 cm long, 86 wide, its height is 80 cm at the edge of the basket, and 165 cm at the top of the handle. Its base has a diameter of about 70 cm. It must weigh between 15 and 20 kg.
